I (31M) found out through Ancestry DNA that my now deceased grandfather had multiple affairs while married to his step-cousin. How do I tell my father (69M) that he has two half-sisters?
tl;dr I have to tell my dad he has at least two half sisters because my grandpa cheated on my grandma. Grandma also turns out to be grandpas step-cousin. How do I tell my dad?
This probably reads like something from Jerry Springer, but I promise, it is unfortunately 100% truth.
I received an Ancestry DNA test as a Christmas present last year and just recently got my results back. I ended up connecting with two other people as heavy DNA matches. Long story short; they were my half-aunts!
It turns out, my grandpa had a tendency to get around. He had two other kids outside of his marriage to my grandma.
If that wasn’t enough, I also found out my grandma was his step-cousin! Her mother remarried to my grandpa’s uncle. There’s no blood relation between my grandma and grandpa, thankfully, but I’m not sure if it’s known within the family.
How/where do I even start telling this to my father? (Yes, the half-sisters want disclosure, as grandpa never acknowledged the kids as his own, even when accused)
