I am having a hard time feeling like I am actually in a relationship. When we aren't together it feels so distant because we only text off and on throughout the day. He doesn't really initiate phone calls or video chats. He isn't very affectionate or reassuring either when we aren't together. Even when we are together it feels like I am having to initiate these conversations about how we feel about each other. We have been seeing each other for a few weeks and only became exclusive again last week.
We have great physical chemistry and he has communicated better since we rekindled things but I just am noticing similar patterns of behaviour after we became intimate. It's as if guys think they don't need to maintain effort after sex, when that is simply ridiculous.
I gave him another chance hoping things would be different as it has been over 3 years since we were together last. I want to talk to him about how I feel and my expectations because I feel like he needs to prove his intentions to me given that he ruined the relationship last time. I need him to make me feel more secure in trusting his intentions and I am not sure how to have this conversation with him as I don't feel like I should have to, since he has already been told that he needs to show effort or I'm out. What do I do in this situation?
TL;DR got back together with my ex, he is showing same pattern of behaviour despite him saying he would show me he's different. How do I ask for what I want without starting an argument or point out to him that I feel like his effort is still lacking?
