My friend is being catfished.
I’ll try to make a long story short here, advice for how to proceed with friend is welcome!
My good friend 35 (F) is going through a rough divorce from an abusive man. She was contacted by a strange man on Facebook and now they have fallen in love. Supposedly. I am so very sure he’s a scammer.
Reasons why I’m confident he’s a scammer:
He’s already asked her for money so that he can come back to the US by breaking his work contract. It’s such a bad excuse and according to her she won’t be sending him money. 6000 dollars by the way to break his work contract, such BS.
They do not FaceTime or talk on the phone. He has excuses about his job and security reasons. Again red flags and total BS. Messenger only, and of course he says all kinds of incredibly romantic messages.
His FB pics are male model gorgeous OF COURSE. Because why not when you’re a scammer?
There’s more but you get the gist. It’s all pretty textbook catfish/scam stuff. The problem is she is hooked and our friend group has told her we don’t believe he is real. So now she just doesn’t talk to us about him but she’ll slip up and say things like “I just can’t wait until he comes home.”
TLDR: What more can we do to try and protect a friend from a catfish/scammer when she seems to believe his story?
