I (24m) broke up with my girlfriend (24f) because she is locked into a contract 3 years from now in her home country and I feel awful about it
Hi,
So my girlfriend revealed to me after dating for a while that once her current contract is up in our country (UK) 3 years from now. She is locked into working in her home country (other side of the world) for 6 years or faces hundreds of thousands in debt.
This completely blew me away and I ended up breaking up with her the next day. Everyone I know tells me this was the correct decision but I feel absolutly terrible because I really liked her and am pretty devastated.
I'm not really sure why I'm posting here but I guess I'm looking for some impartial views. Part of me really wants to keep dating since she still has 3 years in this country but the logical half of my brain says that its better to break up now since there are literally zero job prospects for me in her home country and all I get from continuing to date is 6 years of long distance. Any views are appreciated, just curious what others think.
Tl:dr I feel bad about breaking up with my girlfriend when it was going well because of something long term.
