Hello,
Thanks for reading and helping.
We're women in our 30s. I met a friend 4 weeks ago and she calls every day, multiple text all day even without responses. A couple weeks ago she started showing up to places I said I was going to be, without inviting her. For example dog related events, when she hates dogs. Today she said she's going to a military function I have tomorrow, and asked me what time I could pick her up (no military affiliation so she can't get on base alone). I didn't invite her and I don't want her to go. I'm a low maintenance friend I think, I want to see her maybe once a week and when her car breaks down and she needs help. I don't know how to ask her to stop showing up at my hobbies/events. It is a free country, am I wrong for asking her to stop?
Also, it has to be me because a similar thing happened last year with a different new friend. She started waiting for me outside of my office after work or outside of my house as early as 6am after about a month of knowing her. I sent her a text that said "hey, I really appreciate your friendship, and I like hanging out every week or so, but I think that's all I can handle time wise in my life right now". She got upset, and I never heard from her again.
Am I doing something wrong that's attracting these personality types or is this typical for a friendship and I'm too unfriendly?
TL;DR How to I ask new friends to stop showing up at my hobbies/classes/functions?
