My Dom took my right away of having a safe word. Is this a red flag?

My Dom (29M) and I (18F) were discussing how I'm going to move in with him so we can start being a Dom and a Sub (we haven't done anything sexual yet) and he said that before he wanted me to move in, he wanted me to know that he doesn't believe in having a safe word and so I won't have one. I immediately became hesitant so I told him I have to think about it. My friends told me that this is a major ref flag in a Dom and that I shouldn't agree.

TL;DR my Dom doesn't want me to have a safe word, i'm uncomfortable with it and my friends safe it's a big red flag.
