I [M35] and my gf [F28] have been together a year. We have a great relationship. We hardly ever argue. I know she loves me a lot. We’ve been discussing moving in together and buying a house within the next 6 months. Neither of us can have children, so it’s a perfect match (finding a girl that can’t/doesn’t want children is very difficult, especially one I’m attracted to, etc.)
Yesterday I got an offer for my dream job but it requires I relocate. The salary is 2x what I’m currently making with far greater stability. If I refuse it, an offer like this will never happen again.
I’ve discussed with my gf. She won’t move due to her elderly/aging parents and I won’t do a long distance relationship. Been there. Done that. Not for me. She’s obviously devastated by the fact that I might leave her.
So my decision is to stay with the woman I love dearly, or leave her for my dream job. If I take the job, I could end up hating it and regretting leaving her. If I stay with her, we could break up at some point anyway or I could resent her and cause the relationship to end that way.
Half of my friends say to stay with the girl as I’m not getting any younger and girls of her calibre are hard to find. The other half say take the job because opportunities like this only come around once or twice in a lifetime.
This is likely going to be the single biggest decision I’ll ever have to make. I need help.
TL;DR - need to choose either a career or my girlfriend.
