So when ever I learn something or read something online, doesn't matter the topic and when I bring it up in conversation with my parents, they will always hit back at me "yeah but is that your experience?" as a response. For example we were discussing if it was a good way of spending time to hunt for hiring managers on LinkedIn for indeed job postings. I looked it up and it was a 50/50 mix leaning towards just send a message through indeed and apply for other jobs. Then my mom throws out the canned response of "yeah but is that your experience?" What's the outside view of this?
More context:
It is essentially a boiled down version of I've lived longer so you should listen to me or you haven't lived long enough to know these things or experience the things you read about which is their argument which has become the canned response to anything I say. My thinking is that I read a wide variety of things to form my own opinions about the world that I live on/in. Kinda like your opinion isn't valid because you haven't lived it.
With toxic meaning "can simply be a person making a situation more difficult than it has to be"
TL;DR; : Parents always responding with "yeah but is it your experience?" Is this toxic?
