My boyfriend of 2 years (19M) has been criticizing me (19F) and calling me selfish because I want to move back to Toronto for my second year of uni. We are currently long distance, and have not seen eachother since Corona got really bad. He lives in British Columbia, and wants to move in with myself and my parents until he is able to get a job and a car, and eventually his own place here.
This would not be the first time he has lived with us, as he stayed with me and my parents for 8 months during our senior year in high school to escape his abusive parents. I understand why he wants to come here, however our relationship has been very strained over it for many months. Because of how strained our relationship is and the way he puts me down, I am hesitant to give up something I wanted so badly in order to house him and give him the chance to get back on his feet.
I had been planning on moving in with my best friend for the upcoming school year, and have been expressing my excitement for many months now. I feel as though I have gotten my boyfriend out of many difficult situations before, and helped him as best I could. He has had a rough life and struggles a lot with his mental health, and though I have done my best to talk him down from bad episodes and take care of him, I am feeling worn down and tired. Does this make me an awful person?
Am I being selfish and letting my own wants hurt his future and our relationship?
TLDR: my boyfriend thinks I'm selfish because I want to move back to the city with my best friend instead of staying with my parents and letting him move in with us
