I have a friend since I was 5, she is like family. A little weird but lovely. Never married and obese, very opinionated, has a good job that pays 150k or so, so she is high functioning, has friends, etc.
I'm visiting my hometown and she recently moved into a new condo and invited me over to see it. It is literally floor to ceiling junk (she calls it her "craft stuff"), narrow walkways through rooms, no flat surfaces whatsoever that aren't totally covered almost to the ceiling. At one point she said she couldn't google something we were talking about because she can't find her computer plug.
I love her so much but she has zero self awareness and I think she will be so hurt. Should I say something? Try to help? Or let her live like this. She told me to have a seat and there was nowhere to sit and she didn't seem at all fazed that I was balancing on an armchair that was stacked with teddy bears (she is 50!)and covered in cat hair. What do I do?
tl;dr: My friend who is normal became a hoarder and there is hope for her because she is normal in a lot of ways, but I don't want to disrupt our lifelong friendship.
