My boyfriend (22M) has more money than me (20F). I’m really conflicted on what to do, we both know the amount of money each other has but the issue is he pays for almost everything we do probably 80% and I feel so guilty and I can tell he wants me to pay for things and I do to because I hate feeling so dependent. My only issue is he has close to 10,000 saved from collecting unemployment and I worked all summer to a point where I needed medical attention for my back and gallbladder and I barely scrapped up 1,700 and I need it for college since I’m going to MSU.
I’ve saved all my paychecks so 70% of them go to my college and then the other 30% I divided into categories of medical and anniversary savings. I only have 5% of spending money for the rest of the year until next summer, leaving me with roughly $150. I am getting money from my dad for groceries and any tuition that I can’t pay for and isn’t covered by loans and my scholarships. And I also expect to get money for my birthday and Christmas so that will be extra money coming in but still not a lot. I know that he wants to go out to our favorite hibachi place and I’ll have to pay because I promised I would pay for our next meal but whenever we go it’s close to $115 and that clears out the majority of my spending money. I just don’t know what to do without feeling guilty and making him pay for everything, does anyone have any advice on cheap date ideas that I can do for him so I don’t have to spend as much or any advice on how to address this with him?
