Before I start this, let me apologize because I’m on mobile. Anyway, I’m currently in a 3 year relationship with my girlfriend. We’re very happy together and I couldn’t ask for more in a woman. We go to the same college and we started dating in high school.
Today (4/5/2021), we received a package that was supposed to arrive before Easter from my mother that contained two devotion books. A “3-minute Devotions for Guys”, presumably for me, and a “Lies Young Women Believe”, which was intended for my girlfriend. The book for my girlfriend contains a lot of sexism and explicitly advocates for the removal of individualism from women; the book states that it is a “lie” that having a career can be just as fulfilling as being a stay at home mom, or that women are in control of their sexuality. The problem is that my girlfriend is very much atheist and has no intention of learning about Christianity. Not only that, she plans on being a doctor, and does not want children. We have made this clear to both of my parents.
I’m embarrassed about this and I’m at such a loss for words and I have no clue who to talk to about this. I don’t know if she just didn’t read the book before buying it for my girlfriend, or if she’s actively trying to convert my girlfriend. I myself am looking into my spirituality, and apparently made the mistake of telling my mother about this. My girlfriend is amused by this, but I don’t find it amusing in the least. I love all of my family very much, but when my mother does things like this, it’s just annoying. She (my girlfriend) wants to keep the book, but I don’t see a need and I want to get rid of it. What should I do?
TL;DR: My religious mom keeps assuming my girlfriend is interested in Christianity and sent her a sexist devotions book.
