Listen. I don’t expect a Christmas gift. I don’t have to have any gifts. But this last month my boyfriend, (25M) has asked what I wanted for Christmas, taken me out looking while I shopped for my family. We’ve been together for 1 year. He always shops last minute and I remind him about holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Weeks beforehand. I am done doing this now.
We set the expectation that both of us were exchanging gifts in the beginning of December. When you live with someone, it’s extremely easy to learn their habits. I know he hasn’t bought a gift for me. Last week, we went on a special buying trip just for his mom, sister, and nieces. I reminded him, “Hey, Christmas is next week.”
He went into a panic about how busy we have been and he forgot. Mind you, I kept any bad conversation out and tried encouraged him to go shopping this last weekend while I was at work. This is where it gets bad. He says he won’t go shopping unless I’m with him. He says he’ll make me stand in the store somewhere while he buys me a gift. He says he hasn’t bought me anything as of today. So while I busted my ass to get him a new laptop and clothes, I am an afterthought to his family. He also blamed me for it, saying that I wasn’t willing to be with him last week when he needed to go. But I was at work.
He’s been talking about getting himself Jordan’s all month. He bought himself an expensive office chair. At this point I feel like returning everything and saying f*ck Christmas. I haven’t conveyed this to him yet, but I feel like I’m not important to him. That my needs aren’t put first, and his family that lives in another state and himself are always put before me.
TLDR: My boyfriend refuses to buy me gifts unless I go with him while he does it. Still isn’t doing it now, and I got him thoughtful gifts I couldn’t really afford. Bought his whole family something but not me.
