Girlfriend [22f] claims she lost her virginity to her cousin when she was 16 and he was 18. I [23m] think that’s abnormal but she doesn’t. Is it?

My girlfriend claims she lost her virginity to her cousin (whom I’ve never met and lives in a different city) when she was 16 and he was 18.

Supposedly, they had already made out and experimented sporadically for years before that. They were alone at his parents’ house when he made a move. She claims they never had sex again after that. Looking back, she thinks the sex was shit but it was fun in the moment.

She admitted all of this recently. When I asked about her first time before, she said it was “a guy from high school”. She hadn’t gone into detail before, but the story was overall the same: home alone, he made a move and she agreed. Except she didn’t mention it was actually her older cousin.

The admission came spontaneously during a talk about sex a few days ago, because she “didn’t want to lie to me about it any more”. I appreciate her honesty even if she lied about for several months, although “I banged my cousin when I was 16” is not exactly something you just whip out during a date, so I can see her dilemma.

More surprising though was the fact that she is aware of how weird it is for other people (hence why she hid it for months), but she herself doesn’t seem to think it’s particularly weird.

I asked her if she ever experimented with any other family member. She admitted she played doctor with her twin brother as kids (normal, I guess), and she made out with a different cousin when they were 13-14. She would “swap roommates” with her bro when this other cousin and his own sister stayed the night in their home. Meaning, her bro did things with the sister (also his cousin) in his room, while my GF did the same with the male cousin in hers, and they would each sneak out again after a while.

I am just flabbergasted by how casually she said all of this. She giggled a lot like they were just silly naughty things she did when she was young.

I would have thought this was really fucking weird a week ago, but the way she told the stories is really tripping me out and making me wonder how normal it actually is.

Is it normal to experiment so much with cousins during the teenage years? Should this tell me… something, anything, about my girlfriend? What should I do about this?

tl;dr: Girlfriend experimented sexually with two cousins, and lost her virginity to one of them when she was 16. She tells it like it’s a funny story but I think it’s weird as hell. Am I right? Is she right? Is this normal?
