My boyfriend [27M] thinks I [28F] would cheat on him because I said a celebrity was hot. I'm not sure how to make him feel secure moving forward.

I have been with my boyfriend for almost a year and a half. Things have been really great, but I've noticed that he can be a tad jealous.

Last week, I said something incredible insensitive and inappropriate. When watching a movie trailer, I stupidly said "Oh, that celebrity makes me wet!" He immediately shut down, and said that what I said was disrespectful and hurtful. We talked about it and I apologized.

Yesterday, he said we needed to talk and stated that what I said was a "red flag" and he is having second thoughts about us due to what I said. He called me inconsiderate and stated "I think you'd cheat on me. What makes me think you wouldn't cheat on me with a neighbor or a coworker because of what you said?" I've never cheated on him or said anything like this before. He thinks he may have been cheated on in a past relationship.

I feel very hurt that he thinks that I would cheat on him due to this comment about a celebrity. He said he felt better after getting his thoughts off his chest, but I'm really torn on how I feel about him jumping to a conclusion like that. How do I address this moving forward, and am I the asshole for making an inappropriate comment? Is he justified in wanting to end things with me over this and assuming I'd cheat?

TLDR; I told my boyfriend a celebrity made me "wet" and he thinks I will cheat on him because of my comment. How do I make him feel secure in us again?
