My boyfriend is 36. He is bald, as he started losing his hair in his early 20’s so he just shaves the sides and leans into the baldness. However, he grows thick black hair everywhere else. He has a magnificent, thick, soft beard that I love. He has four small white hairs on his chin that I don’t mind at all. Bring on the salt and pepper look! However, he insists they aren’t his. He has shaved a couple times, trimmed often and they are still there.
He says that this has happened before. That someone else’s hair implants itself in his follicles and grows as if it’s his. So he thinks that the white hairs are either mine or my dog’s since she’s always cuddling on his face too.
To me it sounds ridiculous, but not worth fighting over. But now he’s complaining about the four little white hairs that have been there for months. I can’t seem to convince him to pluck them and see what happens. He insists he doesn’t care if he’s getting white hairs but that it isn’t what’s happening.
Is this a thing that happens? Is it a common problem that I can’t seem to find info on because I’m not using the correct search terms? Or is he maybe more sensitive than he’s letting on? Personally, I like the salt and pepper look and I feel like men really reach the height of their attractiveness in their 40’s and 50’s, and he has agreed with me when I’ve pointed that out. But now he’s making claims that I think sounds kind of silly.
This is obviously super low-stakes here. I just wanna make sure I’m not missing something completely and that I’m approaching this with sensitivity if he is more upset about the new white hairs than he is letting on.
TL;DR: boyfriend says the white hairs in his beard are mine or the dog’s and embedded themselves in his follicles. I’m not sure that’s possible, but want to make sure that no matter what I’m being sensitive to his feelings.
