My boyfriend is nicer to his sister and I feel like the third wheel when she is around.

Hi everyone! First of all some background: I (21) am dating a guy who is 22 and he has a 19 year old sister. I want to start off saying that she has always been nice to me and that’s why I feel so badly about feeling this way.

Every single time we go out, he asks his sister if she wants to come. I of course am supportive because she is his sister and I enjoy spending time with her but it kind of is upsetting when it’s every single time we go out. I miss spending time just us and he tends to leave me out a lot when she is around.

They constantly talk, tell inside jokes, refer to things from the past and it feels like I’m just interrupting constantly. I feel like I’m tagging along and unwanted. He almost ignores me the entire time we are with her.

Whenever we go anywhere with her he constantly asks her what she wants to eat and where she wants to go. We went to a mall and we went to all the stores she wanted to and then left. I didn’t get to go into a single store. Once we left he asked what she wanted to eat and that’s where we went.

They both play video games and I’ve started to play too because I want to bond with my bf. When it’s just him and I playing, I have such a great time and it doesn’t matter that I’m bad because we are just playing to have fun. However, lately he has her play with us every single time and she of course wants to play all of the hard stuff that I find very un fun because I’m not that good and they leave me behind without explaining what to do. When we get in the game they run off together and just leave me wondering what to do.

My boyfriend then insults me to try to be funny and she laughs and it is just very hurtful.

My boyfriend and I went to get gas the other day and since his sister was still asleep and didn’t want to get up and go, he made us stop by this shop and he bought her a random pair of socks with dogs on them just because.

He’s never done that for me ever.

Am I being insensitive and insecure? I feel really bad about feeling this way but I honestly don’t know what to think anymore. It’s getting to the point where I don’t even want to go over.

TL;DR - Boyfriend likes sister more. He does nice things for her and she is with us all the time. I feel like a third wheel around them and he always asks what her needs are instead of mine.
