My (29/F) Husband (30/M) is going through a depressive episode right before I’m due to give birth and I need to know how to best support him.
So as the title states, I’m due in a little over a couple weeks and my husband is going through what seems to be a pretty deep depressive episode and I’m at a loss of what to do. I’m trying to be supportive and cook good healthy meals, snacks, remind him how much I love him, but he seems just dismissive of everything-even the birth of our first kid. I can’t seem to get him excited about anything, which I know isn’t his fault, so I’m doing my best not to take it personally.
He finally was prescribed an anti depressant today because he has realized he hasn’t been himself, so I’m hoping it does help him, but it takes time for it to kick in. The fact that his job is insanely stressful I know doesn’t help.
I’m not trying to make his personal battles about me, it’s just really hard with a baby around the corner and I’m trying to keep positive but I’m tired, and anxious as well.
Just looking to see if anyone has been in a similar situation and has advice on what I can do to help? Thanks!
TLDR: Husband very depressed to the point of barely communicating and baby is on the way. Wondering how to help him.
