My (48f) partner (49m) constantly mentions how "old" women are that he works with (he says to make me know I have nothing to worry about)...they are our age...wtf.

This is just weird. Several years ago, we had an issue where my partner became too close to a colleague at work. She was in her 20s.

Anyway, since then I've noticed he will sometimes bring up women at work that he deals with, and each time he'll manage to mention that she's "got to be in her 50s", or "she's older, like maybe 45" etc. Recently he told me about an older woman that he works with and said she's about 60. Then, yesterday something came up in conversation and he mentioned that she won't be able to go on a European vacation she'd been planning for her 50th birthday next month.

I said "I thought you said she was 60?" He said "well, I knew she was older, but I wasn't sure of her exact age...I just mentioned it so you'd know you had nothing to worry about".

This rubbed me the wrong way. I pointed out that she's actually only 1 year older than him (and not quite 2 years older than me).

It bugs me because to me he's basically saying he'd never find an older woman (his age, my age) attractive, so I definitely don't have to worry that we'll have a repeat of the situation we had several years ago.

​

So from this, I can only take away that he doesn't find older (age appropriate!) women attractive, so I would not have to worry unless the women were in their 20s or 30s. Even though he himself is nearly 50.

Last month he I asked him about a facebook friend (that I don't know personally) that he was sending info too. He quickly mentioned...."don't worry, she's nearly 50". Well so is he!

Am I being crazy here? I'm happy that he's not interested in these various women and that he's trying to help me feel secure and trust him, but it feels somewhat weirdly insulting that he's using their age as the reason he'd never be attracted to them. Right??

​

tldr: bf tries to alleviate any insecurity I may feel about other women by telling me, basically, that they are so old he'd never be interested even though they are our age.
