So I [18F] have a male family friend [34M] that I’ve been quite close with for the past 2-3 years. We’ve always been a little physically close (think hugging, leaning on each other on the couch) and I always thought it was normal bc I viewed him as an older brother. However, he moved recently due to breaking up with his longtime girlfriend, which has resulted in us spending more 1 on 1 time with each other. Things progressed to the point that we full-on snuggle and he’ll rub my back and we spoon etc while watching movies. Nothing sexual, but a little odd coming from someone I viewed as a brother? I’ve actually begun to develop feelings for him, but I don’t want to immediately assume he has romantic intent because I feel he might just be lonely post-breakup. We live in the UK and he’s from America, I don’t know if that has something to do with it. However, I also know he’s been texting a girl from home a lot recently, like for hours a day. He always talks about women he would date and about moving places where girls he’s friends with live. Advice on what I should do? I’m tired of being disappointed and confused.
TL;DR: A family friend of mine is sending mixed signals about how he wants our relationship to progress. Advice?
EDIT: Thank you so much to everyone who answered. I was very concerned about the possibility of being groomed and I appreciate the advice. Despite really thinking he was a good guy (solid job, seemingly good morals, super intelligent) I always kinda felt like I was being deceived in some way and your replies have solidified that. I’m definitely going to distance myself lol.
