My boyfriend hacked into my parents WIFI router and was tracking if I was home or not and who’s devices were connected to the wifi....is this legal? Am I wrong to feel mine and my family’s privacy has been violated?
TLDR: boyfriend is tracking my whereabouts by hacking my parents wifi to see if I’m home. Am I wrong to feel that’s a violation of mine and my parents privacy?
12:40am update; 1. My parents know 2. Cops are involved - we have an 8am meeting to setup a plan for my safety and discuss legal options (restraining order, criminal charges etc) 3. Once the safety plan is in place I will be ending the relationship. Just for fear of retaliation the police have advised we wait until a safety plan can be put into place.
I’m 18 my boyfriend is 20. He apparently has been tracking my phone through our wifi when I tell him I’m home he checks to see if I’m connected (somehow I don’t fully understand it).
So today he was mad because I told him I would be home for the day but I left the house for 10-15 minutes to go to the pizza shop with my dad to pick up our food because dad asked me to.
My boyfriend texted me freaking out about 5 minutes after I left the house asking where I was and what I was doing......and while yelling at me about that he brought up how yesterday a different/new device was connected to our wifi (it was my dads best friend) and he accused me of cheating.
I feel like my privacy and my entire family’s privacy is being invaded by this, I don’t know if it’s illegal but I also don’t feel like it’s entirely legal either.
Am I wrong for feeling completely uncomfortable with having my phone being tracked via whether I’m connected to our wifi?
