I (24M) want to reconnect with my very Catholic godfather (40+M), but I've left Christianity. Should I be honest with him?

I was a good Catholic boy for most of my life. However, in the last 4 years or so, I've been through a difficult process of changing religions: I have rejected Christianity and decided to be a Buddhist.

My godfather is a very knowledgeable guy, and is actually an university professor on religious studies. Many years ago he'd teach me as much about religion, philosophy, and history as he could in the little time we could share. Even after his children were born, he'd act like a mentor (or sometimes even a father) to me. When I was a child, he gifted me a Saint Michael figure I hold onto dearly.

I miss him, his family, and his knowledge. But I fear that he'll not accept my new beliefs and risk telling it to my mom (who I really don't want to know about it), or try really hard to convince me to go back to Christianity. He can be a bit too dogmatic at times. He doesn't even know I am gay and have a long time boyfriend.

Am I worring too much? Or should I really stay away from him and hide my beliefs?

tl;dr: I want to reconnect with my very Catholic godfather but I fear it would be overly painful because I'm both gay and Buddhist.
