My widowed mom [52F] has never worked a job in her life, and wants to "buy a business" to run cause she's bored. I have zero faith in her and am convinced she will just burn all the money my dad left us. How do I convince her this is a bad idea?

So she's been a stay-at-home mom for her entire adult life. Now, she spends every single day just sitting at home watching TV. The money my dad left us ($3-4M) is MORE than enough to live off for the rest of her life, and would make more money in the stock market than any local business my mom could run.

She has never worked a 9-5 job or volunteered anywhere, let alone run a business, and I suspect she also has anxiety over people thinking she's useless and wants to "prove herself". She is not very financially literate, and I don't live close enough to her to help her with this (and I wouldn't want to).

On the other hand, if someone has experience with people buying small businesses and think it's a relatively safe path (if she can just break even I'd be happy), I'm open to hearing that out. Thank you in advance.

TL;DR Mom has zero work experience but wants to buy a business to have something to do. I'm afraid she's gonna burn all our cash.
