My (39f) boyfriend (42M) rarely says he loves me but can say it to a female friend. Cause for concern or am I over sensitive?
I'm new here, so please excuse if I'm not following the rules for posting. My (39f) boyfriend (42m) only tells me he loves me when he's been drinking, so I've only heard "I love you" about 7 times in the last year, and even then I'm usually the one saying it first.
We've been together for slightly over 2 years, meaning it took a year for him to tell me he loved me (not there's anything wrong with that!). When I text him to tell him I love him, he (sometimes) texts back "luv u 2," as if he can't bring himself to spell out the words (just my perception of it).
He's able to tell a female friend that he loves her, and gives her more verbal affection than he gives me. Maybe saying “I love you” to her is easier for him because the stakes are lower?
Am I putting too much emphasis on those 3 words? Is the female friend and how he is with her a bad sign or is that normal?
TL;DR Boyfriend rarely says I love you, and when he does, it's only when he's had a couple drinks. Am I putting too much thought into this by wanting to hear it more often?
