My dad (45M) wants to put our very elderly dog to sleep himself without assistance from a vet

Hi all. This might be long because it's a very sad and frustrating situation. Our dear old family french bulldog is approaching 14 years old, and her health has rapidly declined in the last few months. She has severe hip dysplasia and is pretty much unable to walk on her own anymore. She can't even stand to eat her food anymore. She also cannot hold her bladder at all anymore, and has had to wear doggy diapers as of recently. She has pretty bad respiratory issues as well and has a cancerous growth on her chest. She's not doing well and the vet has told us she will only get worse. My parents divorced five years ago and the dog went with my dad. Since he's recently moved he was unable to take her with him and she's been staying with my mom. My mom, me and my siblings have agreed and made peace with the idea of putting her to sleep. It was by no means an easy decision to make, and it's been killing me every day knowing I'll have to say goodbye to her.

My dad has turned a bad situation even worse. My brother made an appointment at the vet for today, but my dad called and cancelled the appointment because he decided just today that he wanted to put her to sleep himself. By that, he means he wants to crush up morphine pills and put it in her food and have her breathing slowly stop for 6-8 hours before she dies. Obviously this is a terrible idea. Morphine is not what's used to put dogs to sleep, it's usually pentobarbital. Having a pentobarbital injection means she would pass on in a matter of seconds peacefully and painlessly. My mom and my siblings collectively agree that giving her crushed up morphine pills is unsafe and inhumane. Now we are stuck in a sticky situation.

We don't feel comfortable bringing the dog back to my dad's because we cannot guarantee he won't go through with his I'll advised plan. Me and my siblings have both tried talking sense into him but he is unwilling to listen to reason. If we keep the dog at my mom's it'll turn into an ugly fight between my parents and will just drag this process out longer than it needs to be. How do we handle my dad in a way that is in the best interest of my dog?

TL;DR: My dad wants to put our family dog to sleep by himself without veterinary assistance
