So I’m really not a sports fan at all. I can hangout for the social aspect of it, but as far as the game goes I could really care less. My boyfriend however, LOVES football. He is a very avid fan to a team, well really the whole state.
I work as a nanny full time during the week. Sometimes I’ll go to his apartment (30 minutes away) one night a week (we typically watch football) and sometimes he comes to stay with me (he usually wants to put the game on). Well the weekend I am completely off and it is my time to spend time with him as well as friends and family. He stays at his dads apartment which is close to me and we spend the whole weekend together basically.
We designated Friday nights as our date night. Whatever we do, football is not on the tv. However, oftentimes he will be on his phone looking at his fantasy league, texting friends about football while at a nice dinner, talking to me about football (i have no idea what to say but i try to converse and keep up). But regardless, it’s nice to have quality time together after a long week.
Saturday and Sunday football starts at noon and is on the rest of the day. That means anything that we could do during the day has to either be in a restaurant where they have enough tvs so he can see or we stay home and drink and watch the game.
I have tried to be as understanding as I can, really. But I didn’t grow up in a family where we were super into sports so this is extremely challenging for me. I just don’t want my weekend to revolve around watching football with him so I’m not bored at home alone. I recently moved to this new state (so did he) so I don’t know many other people.
I love this guy a lot, but if it keeps going at this rate (which he said it won’t, but I’m not sure I believe him) I don’t know if I can keep going. It’s draining and makes me feel like I did nothing with my weekend come Sunday night.
tldr: I am tired of spending all weekend watching football with my boyfriend and don’t know how to approach expressing my concern
