So my co-worker told me about this sub-reddit & to post on here for advice.
Today is my son's birthday, we'll call him 'Lucas' & he just turned 21. He's been dating 'Lisa'[27 F] for 5 months now. I was a bit taken back by the age gap when I first heard about her as my son was only 20 at the time. As he told me more about 'Lisa', the more red flags started to pop up. They met at work & became friends & eventually started dating. She has an 8 year old son that she introduced to 'Lucas' after only a week of dating. Her child has no father figure in his life so 'Lisa' has asked 'Lucas' to be a father figure to her son. That to me was a giant flag.
Now she's talking about marriage and moving in together soon (by next month). Everything 'Lisa' wants, 'Lucas' will jump high to do it for her. 'Lucas' has even asked his little sister (16 F) to help him pick out rings. She told him it was a bad idea & he brushed her off. 'Lisa' would like to get married soon & have 'Lucas' be a permanent father to her son, but it just seems rushed to me. I'm not sure if I'm going insane or if this is normal for kids that age now.
How do I talk to my son about his relationship without damaging our relationship? I've tried to talk to him, but he shuts me down every time. He even calls her son, his son now. That he is his child and responsibility. 'Lucas' just turned 21 & is talking about marrying his gf after only a few months. I don't know what to do.
TL;DR: son w/ his gf (dating 5 months) want to get married and move in together. he's playing daddy to her son after only a week of dating. how do I talk to him?
