We all want things to go perfectly. Because of this we tell ourselves that we'll get started once the conditions are right or once we have our bearings. When really it would be better to focus on making do with how things actually are. Marcus aurelius wrote: "Don't await Platos Republic". He wasn't expecting the world to be exactly the way he wanted it to be, but Marcus knew instinctively, as the Catholic philosopher Josef Pieper would later write, that "he alone can do good who knows what things are like and what their situation is".Don't let our honest understanding of the world stop us from trying to make the best of it. Nor should you let petty annoyances and obstacles get in the way of the important job we have to do.
This excerpt from Ryan Holiday perfectly encapsulates several ideas we all need to bear in mind. The most obvious of these is the rule of approaching women. Never put off your attempts due to the voice in your head saying "I'll approach once I've done x, y and z" and stop focusing on what you have to improve. You are enough. Live your life now, not later; get out there and do some fucking work.
