My boyfriend sent pictures of his ex to his mother

My boyfriend (25 male) and I (21 f) were videochatting. Our relationship lately has been rockey because I realize he texted his ex on my birthday. And he's been commenting about my body type, we've been dating for a year at this point He called his mother on his phone and muted myself. They were on the phone for awhile but I didn't mind until he sent me a picture of him and his ex. I hung up the video chat and he's been calling me non-stop. I finally answered and he begged me to listen to his side of the story. He said he accidently sent me the photo. It was meant for his mother because she has been pestering him about who he's been dating. He meant to send that photo to her instead. He claims to not want to send her a picture of us to her because I am black and he thinks shell only refer to me as a Slur. And he's scared she'll be racist towards me. He says it was to protect me. But I'm angry.

Should I be angry or see it from his perspective and forgive him?

TLDR: My boyfriend sent his mom a picture of him and his ex because he's scared his mom will hate our interracial relationship
