Our birthdays are weeks apart. She got me the boots I've always wanted (~$150).
We broke up 2 weeks later, but I still ordered a pair of headphones identical to mine as she said she likes them a lot (~$200). I asked her to please accept my present because I still see her as someone who is important to me, and I've been working hard to afford it.
At first, she said OK, but then our post-breakup convos turned nasty and we basically went no-contact.
Yesterday was her birthday. I didn't say anything because of NC, but the package was supposed to arrive, containing a birthday card etc.
She told the delivery driver to send it back to me (according to the company). I got it today. It was unopened.
What should I do?
It seems like she is clearly trying to make a statement here...
- Give the gift to her friend who will give it to her (probably a bad idea)
- Return the headphones and venmo the value of the boots to her (better idea)
- Do nothing
I'd rather send her the money because I know she also worked hard for it, and I feel bad for accepting her gift and her not accepting mine.
From what I know her, she will probably venmo the money back to spite me, but that's a different problem :/
TL;DR - ex rejected birthday present. Should I resend/give her money/do nothing?
