We’ve been together for going on 16 years, and given our ages, those years were formative and all we know is each other. This is hard to share with others yet here I am.
I am concerned that there is some sort of undiagnosed brain trauma. About 5 years ago, he was perfectly fine, minus some temper issues. He was a college athlete and always had a touch of aggression. I think it’s what initially drew me toward him.
Playing college football and getting knocked in the head was a normal occurrence. A knock here and a knock there wasn't anything out of the ordinary, and others experienced similar injuries. I know he's been concussed a handful of times.
What was once a well-spoken guy, has since devolved into someone who has trouble stringing together simple sentences and pronouncing low-syllable words. With the influx of CTE cases becoming more apparent, we're starting to get worried but aren't sure on how to approach him. Every time someone attempts to correct him, he's super defensive.
I’m not even sure what I’m looking for here. Maybe a little bit of understanding? I hope someone else here has experienced a similar thing.
TL;DR my long time partner is having a drastic change in personality and I believe it’s due to his head trauma during college.
