My niece is getting married and I am happy for her. However, my sister is using it as an opportunity to rub the fact that I'm not married in my face. She makes snide comments like "I can't believe Hayley's getting married before you!" or "My grandchildren will walk down the aisle before you do." Funny enough, my sister is a divorcee while my partner and I have been together for 28 years. We just haven't got married because it doesn't align with our beliefs. We know there are legal benefits to being married but my boyfriend is very "anti-authority/anti-institutionalization." We had a different ceremony that better suited our personal and spiritual beliefs.
I'd love to be there for my niece but since every talk about the wedding gets turned into shaming me, I'm not sure I want to go. She's already saying I should pray that I catch the bouquet and that only married couples get plus ones (my niece is fine with my boyfriend coming).
Should I ignore it and go? Or just send my niece a card and a gift?
TL;DR My sister is using my niece's wedding to rub the fact I'm not married in my face even though I've been with my partner for 28 years
