My (28F) fiancé (28M) wants to invite his dad (53M) to our wedding but he was in jail for domestic violence

My fiancé Rick and I are getting married this August. I knew we had to invite his father Derek, but I don’t want to. Derek went to jail for beating his much younger ex girlfriend from an inch of her life (which also resulted in her right eye getting taken out). All because she wanted to leave him because he was cheating and abusing her.

Derek didn’t serve too long in jail (his Fathers family comes from money) and he was released four years ago (around the time I started dating Rick. I was always distant from his father who claimed he was a changed man and found religion. He apparently cleaned his act after he attempted suicide because he found out his ex got married and had a baby.

I told my fiancé I don’t want Derek at the wedding, but Rick says it’s not up for debate and his father is a changed man. I have no idea what to do. A lot of members of my family are disgusted.
