Hi everyone. My bf (30/M) and I (30/F) have been together for 4.5 years. He’s been hinting about proposing on Halloween for a good few weeks now. He even spilled the beans and said part of his plan. So I was looking forward to yesterday for what felt like forever.
Well, unfortunately, the day came and went. I got all dolled up, came home early from work (we both work together but it was a super short shift for both of us) and was waiting patiently the whole day for the question. We did brunch in the morning at a new spot so I thought maybe then. Then I thought maybe he’d do it on our break or after our shift? I know it sounds odd but you never know. I was giddy and full of joy waiting the whole day. I hinted around the end of the shift via text to stay private and he said he wanted to take me somewhere when we leave work to go for a nice walk. That never happened and instead he went home and watched Netflix.
Well, today is now November 1, and I’m feeling a mix of emotions. Let down, confused, sad, and a little salty. This is the second time he’s lead me on about proposing and didn’t follow through. The first time I was devastated but now it just plain sucks. I know it can be nerve wracking to propose but I’m also fairly low maintenance. I would’ve been happy if he got down on one knee in our living room. And I did make that clear.
I recently uprooted my whole life to relocate with him to a middle of nowhere rural town in the mountains where I know absolutely nobody and even had to change jobs. I’d do anything for the guy. So I guess it kind of hurt that he’d lead me on about something so huge. Especially when he knows how important it is to me…
Am I overreacting? Any advice on how to handle this?
TL;DR: BF of 4.5 years lied to me about proposing yesterday. I’m feeling a mix of emotions as this is the second time and I don’t know what to do. I uprooted my life to relocate with him but I’m feeling taken for granted.
