how do you know when to start calling SO's family by first names?

I've known my partner for a long time before we dated, like we're now 25 but have known each other since we were teenagers, and so i always called his parens Mr. Lastname and Mrs. Lastname. We've been dating a long time now (a few years) and I'm really close with them, not sure if/when/how to make the switch to calling them by first names. Some of my bf's friends do refer to them by first name, so it feels like my relationship with them is on that level.

They are not the types to go out of their way to tell me to start calling them by their first name, my partner thinks I could just start doing it and that wouldn't be weird. The difference between us is that he was raised calling adults he was close with by first name, I was raised always calling adults by their last name, so even to this day calling people older than me by their first name feels weirdly unnatural if that makes sense.

At this point, it feels like I should be able to call them by first name and like it's maybe even a little odd that others do but not me, BUT I will just feel super weird randomly switching. I don't think they will ever go out of their way to mention it, but they did recently give me a birthday card signed with their first names.

I have a similar internal dilemma over his grandmother, who has previously signed cards to me by her first name, but all of a sudden this year signed it as Grandma (not actually grandma but the term they use for grandma in their family)

Advice much appreciated!

TLDR; What the title says, wondering when I can switch from years of referring to SO's family members as Mr / Mrs. Lastname to their first names
