As title says, my (23M) girlfriend (21F) of 1.5 years is asking for money from me.
She’s got herself into financial trouble after leaving a lease early and not paying her rent. She’s put herself in this position by not trying to end the lease and owes a pretty hefty sum of $7000. We are aware of each other’s financial position so she knows that I do have that amount in my savings.
What I know though is she has made the decisions for herself to be in this situation that could have easily been avoided. I told her multiple times that she needed to sort it out and it wouldn’t go away but she didn’t do anything. By me giving her that amount I would be putting myself out by not leaving much savings if things were to financially go sour for me. My parents always taught me to never let anyone, especially partners, borrow money.
So my question is, how to I tell her I can’t help her without sounding rude? This will cause big repercussions as she will either need to get a loan or legal action will occur. I just want her to know I can support her with whatever she needs but I can’t give her any money.
Thanks !!
TL;DR! Partner (21F) is asking for money to get herself out of a legal situation, how do I (23M) decline without sounding rude?
EDIT: grammar, hehe
