So my father’s possessions are a touchy subject for me. After he passed the day of the wake I was lead into his room and told I could grab a few small things now and everything would be boxed up and I could look through it all. Because if anyone saw me taking stuff the “vultures “ would want something. Funny how they became the vultures.
He had a Godzilla and comic book collection alongside many other things me a 14 year old boy would want of his father’s. One specific item is a pipe he always smoked (it was a gandolf pipe) dad was a nerd and so am I so it would have ment a lot to me.
The day for me to look through the boxes never came. I bottled everything up until about now and I started asking questions and I’ve been given empty promises from his side of the “family “.
They act like I don’t exist. This past year none of them wished me happy birthday which is a trivial point unless you factor in I’ve never received a birthday wish from any of them over my 22 years (aside from an uncle but even he didn’t this year)
I’ve asked my aunt about some of his stuff and she always says she’ll look but never follows up with me.
So now back to the uncle. He dropped on me he had some of dads stuff but wouldn’t say. I recently made a trip near him and used his place as a layover. He pulled out the comic and was happy to show it to me.
I replied “yea, I have the original at the house in the safe “ he seamed disappointed and said “well damn I thought I had something special “
He did tho. He also had 2 of dads very early works. Like 10 year difference and you can tell.
So in the long run I’m thankful for my uncle thinking of me to keep everything. I’m also thankful in knowing dads side will be burning in hell sometime during my lifetime.
TL;DR: My uncle had a photo copy of an original comic book my father made. I have the original and have looked at it multiple times. Prior and post his passing
Edit: all uses of uncle is my moms side except the birthday thing
