Want to drops Friends from Friends with Benefits

I met this guy an year ago through a mutual friend and have been maintaining a casual friends with benefits ever since. In the initial days, we would often meet and hangout in public like friends and even sleep over at each other's place. But with the covid cases increasing and lockdown being imposed in my area again, we started seeing less of each other in the recent months but would still meet over for sex sessions. However I have been noticing some odd things like he doesn't want to be seen with me in public as he doesn't want to create problems in his family (he lives with his parents) since his family knows he doesn't have any female friends and he has a lot of family and acquaintances all around the city who can recognise him in public. I told him that I'm not even a gf that he has to keep hidden but a casual friend who he has sex with, how he didn't have issues in the beginning when we would hang out and he should have been honest if he does not like being seen with a girl in public. He did have ex gfs and some even met his parents so I did not see the issue in his family with him simply having a female friend. We have good talks about both of our jobs, lives, family and try to be understanding. But ever since he stopped wanting to be seen in public, I told him that I can't think of him as a friend anymore because for me friendship means being able to hangout, have good time and being there for each openly without restrictions and not being having to be secretive (I have lots of opposite gender friends that considers me just as their own and hangout very publicly so I'm used to that) and still cool with meeting up with only for sex. But he says that he still thinks of me as a friend and feels hurt that I am not understanding his situation and considering him only wanting for sex. So please help me understand his situation because no matter how much I think, 2+2 doesn't add up hence not wanting to be friends

tl;dr Friends with benefits but want to stop being friends because he doesn't want to be seen with me in public anymore citing family when he had no issue in the beginning.
