I've been with my husband for 13 years now (though we only got married 4 years ago) and he has to travel for work every so often. I've started to notice that I fall sick every time he goes away. He's usually gone for 2-3 weeks at a time, and around 2 years ago my friend pointed this out to me, and now I can't stop seeing the pattern. I get flu-like symptoms and develop a fever that persists and it only ever fully stops when he comes back home.
I went to the doctor each time it happened, thinking that maybe it was just the flu or a cold or something, but they've tested me over and over again for just about everything and I turn upon with absolutely nothing. At this point, I've just resorted to waiting it out until he comes home.
I never got sick like this before he got this job, but then again, we were never really apart like now before either. We were next-door neighbors when we started dating, so we saw each other all the time. Our families even vacationed together. In our last year of college he got an internship that led into the job he has now, and in that internship he had to go to a conference for 2 weeks which was the first time I ever got sick. And since then I've just been getting sick every time he leaves like that.
I'd love to hear if other people have had this issue, and how they've dealt with it. Or at the very least, if you have any ideas what this could be. I don't want to sound crazy, and looking it up online hasn't helped me with anything.
If I brought this up to my husband he'd quit in an instant, but he loves his job and I don't want to do that to him. Him being happy is enough for me to just silently deal with this, but it'd be lovely if I could at least figure out why this is happening and find ways to deal with/stop this. I have my own job too, and it's hard to do that when my body wants to shut down. No medicine has helped either. Tylenol and all that cold and flu stuff from the pharmacy does nothing for me, which makes it even harder to function while he's away.
TL;DR I get sick every time my husband goes on trips. Any advice or idea about what this could be?
