So, I [17F] had three turtles. My father managed to kill every one of them - the longest it took him was 2 years. He forgets to feed them, gives them bad food, lets them walk around without paying attention to them. His parents are known for feeding dogs too much and making them obese. He wouldn’t hesitate to kick a cat. Okay. But now he bought a parrot.
It’s a small one, but it can live up to 20 years. She is totally petrified, living in our living room (where is noise until 1 in the morning and I have to go here at 6), so she doesn’t have much time to sleep. Her cage seems big enough, but he put there some sticks and they pulled her feathers. She doesn’t eat yet, she is here from Saturday.
My parents are not together, I came home from my moms and found her. Now, fathers wife does not like this parrot and even though she will feed him, she won’t play with him like you should. I have two siblings, 8 and 7 and they lost all their interest in two days, they are now playing with tablets. Dad puts on loud television, freaks out the bird and doesn’t care much about it except when I try to give advices from internet, because I don’t know anything about birds but don’t want her killed. Then he tells me “I know what I’m doing, I had a lot of these birds when I was young!” Yeah, the problem is, they kept each other company and were able to socialise together. This one is alone, scared and considered little accessory, not a real animal.
What should I do? I fear the parrot will die or will be suffering here, alone. How can I take care of him if my father always opposes? He thinks the bird doesn’t need toys or “sweets”, but from what I read on the internet, he sure does. How to talk to my father (even though I think he won’t listen)?
TLDR; My father bought a parrot, won’t listen about any advices and is know for killing animals.
