I’ll keep this short.
I work from home in a trade that requires me to either be outside or in a highly ventilated area, so almost everyday I’m set up with my workstation on my porch. I like this because I live in a high foot traffic area and oftentimes passersby become big time clients when they see me working.
Unfortunately, for the last month my mailman has been making me extremely uncomfortable when he comes to deliver my mail. Every time he sees me, he HAS to comment on how pretty he thinks I am, how much more interesting I look than what I’m working on, what my name is, etc. More than once he has physically leaned close to me, WITHOUT A MASK, until I have to jerk away to prevent him from touching me. You would think that it’s universally understood not to hover over someone working with power tools and dangerous materials, but I guess not.
It’s gotten so bad that I literally run inside and hurry to wrap up my workbench and tools everyday when I see the mail truck turn around the corner.
Today, however, things escalated: even after I ran inside and locked the door, the mailman knocked on my door and waited seven minutes for me to answer (I timed it.) He didn’t have any packages for me or any kind of certified mail I’d have to sign for, so there’s no excuse for knocking and waiting that long.
I realize it’s a stupid thing to be upset by, but I’m literally so bothered and nervous by this that I’m throwing up. I don’t normally have issues with anxiety but this is really throwing me. I’ve thought about calling the postmaster and filing a complaint, but I have no idea how he’d react seeing as how he obviously knows where I live, what my name is, what the name of my business is, and that there’s nobody else at my address.
It’s not like I lead him on or give him any sort of indication that he makes me feel anything BUT uncomfortable, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever actually spoken a word to him.
I’m completely at a loss for what I should do, or even if I’m being irrationally bothered by it.
tl;dr: my mailman won’t stop flirting with me, won’t take a hint, and is now waiting outside my door for me.
