Hi...My(26F, Software engineer) boyfriend (27M, Doctor) of one year has been diagnosed with Non Obstructive Azoospermia (Zero sperm count) three months ago. We are from India. We were planning to get engaged in June 2021, due to my mom's health condition(Stage 4 uterine cancer) the engagement has been preponed to next week. We are freaking out now. My parents do not know about this.
We talked to almost 10 infertility experts in our country who suggested that Natural conception is not possible but we can try TESE-ICSI(IVF). Its starting to look like a deal-breaker for me and many articles suggest that IVF/ICSI may cause cancer to the woman and there is a fair chance that we may end up childless if the IVF/ICSI cycles fail.
He underwent TESE last month but because of improper surgery, the sperms were not saved. He has gone into depression. I know its not his fault and I am trying to support him as much as I can. But its very difficult for me to cope up with the situation because its starting to feel like a deal breaker. I feel shallow to think that way but that is how I feel. The doctors have suggested for a repeat TESE procedure because there is good chance of finding sperms in testis. We are not ready for adoption or donor sperms. I suggested that we tell my parents and postpone the engagement until we deal with this issue and resolve it, but he is afraid that they will not agree for marriage if we tell them that he has this problem. Please advise guys. Our relationship is hanging by a thread.
TL:DR; Boyfriend diagnosed with Zero sperm count, Engagement needs to be postponed. Should we tell my parents about his condition (Terminally ill mom) ?
