So my boyfriend and I have been together for a little over two years now, and we started dating out of high school. When it's just me and him, he is the sweetest person I've ever met, and I mean that; he's kind, considerate, thoughtful, romantic, and funny. We're alone together a lot, so this is how it usually is.
However, when we're in public, particularly at work, he's like a completely different person. He explained to me that coworkers/customers stress him out, so to deal with this, he lashes out and acts aggressively, or just goes completely mute. However, he acts like this towards me, too. He won't even look at me at work, and if I try to talk to him, he'll push right by me and act like I don't exist. I've tried to explain to him that while I understand he is stressed out, this kind of upsets me. However, when I try to tell him this, he freaks out and says that I need to give him space and shouldn't force him to talk to me, and he'll slam things on counters and kick doors, and just generally act angry. It's gotten to the point where if I see his name on our schedule, I want to cry.
I'm in the process of getting a new job, but the amount of times he's said truly hurtful things at work has made me sour about spending time with him outside of work. He's also starting to act like this when we're around my family, shutting down and not responding to me. Part of me really thinks that I'm too unhappy to stay in this relationship at this point, but he's really the only person I'm close to and I'm truly afraid to end things.
Tl;dr: My boyfriend treats me badly in public/at work/around family, but I don't have too many close relationships and I'm afraid to leave him despite being unhappy.
