I’m [26] going to propose to my GF [25] of 5 years in a few days. What should I be thinking about that I might not expect?

I love my partner immensely. We talk about marriage occasionally so this step feels both exciting/overwhelming and a little bit expected. I know lots of things will change and lots of things won’t, but I’m not entirely sure what that will look like in practice. Any advice or insight from the married among us?

I’m also interested in advice on how to better appreciate the little moments leading up to and in the immediate aftermath of this proposal. What were some of the things you did that you’re really grateful for or wish you had done?

TL;DR Getting engaged in a few days and looking for advice from people who have been there. Thanks in advance!

Update: We already live together and have for a few years

Update 2: Thanks so much for all the advice so far. Just to clarify - I don’t need advice on whether or not proposing is a good idea or whether or not we’re ready for it (it is and we are). Just curious for advice from people who have been through this on the things I might not be thinking about.
