Title is the point of the matter, but for context, we have been separated for over four years.
She ended our relationship in April of 2017. She moved out in July, leaving my daughter and I, plus our three cats. She has some involvement with our daughter, more bow than when she left, but I raised her since she left. Our daughter is 13 now.
The simple truth is, I haven't asked for one yet because I didn't see a reason to. I was healing, while also getting over losing my mom. So dating was not on my mind.
But now, I am at a point where I am largely happy and would like a partner. While my ex has a partner, and pretty much has since she left, I find that women within my age group, which I prefer, want someone fully divorced. I get it, I respect it and I would be happy to get there.
Only, I just don't know how to approach it. No. There is No one currently in my life that I am doing this for. But I'd like to be able to build to that. I just worry that my ex will freak out.
I've been rejected for being separated rather than divorced. Since my living situation is complex, I'd like my relationship status to be cut and dry.
Tldr: I want to ask my ex of 4+ years for a divorce but I am not sure how to do so.
