Boyfriend goes “on break”, but goes on online dating. He never raises his issues with me or tells me we’ve broken up

TL;DR boyfriend said he needs time/space because of stress, but is found on online dating. He told a friend we broke up and said horrible things about me, but when I ask he says - we are on a break but he’ll be able to see me soon.

I’m a 40f and I had a 6 month relationship with a 39m. We had a conversation about our future and feelings and how we could make it work.

A few weeks later he told me me was stressed out and needed a bit of space. I sent him a supportive message and he replied outlining all the things that were happening in his life. I gave him space for 2 weeks before I caved and texted again.

I asked him if it was a break or break up l- He replied that the break has been good but might need a bit more time. He’s been busy with work, he also suggested a walk catch up next week.

But on the same day I find out that his dating profile is active online and he’s been seen dating other women.

This came as a huge surprise as he’s never mentioned any of the relationship concerns to me. I am so tempted to clear the air but then I’m afraid that’s too needy or confronting.

Im so confused as why he’s texting me and why he never broke up with me even when I ask directly.

I’m also astounded that he chose not to talk or work through relationship issues but just started dating again without still no communication that we’ve broken up.

Should I send a long text clearing the air or do I just walk away .
