Edit: it turns out he actually was at work and I either mental gapped and filled the blanks in or he has a serious twin. I'm pretty gobsmacked. Because I was so sure.
So we've been dating for 5 years. We live together, have been talking about getting engaged, etc. Really stable and happy relationship. We never really fight or argue, communicate in a healthy way, and overall have no distrust in the relationship.
Until today. My boyfriend feels like I'm gaslighting him. I feel the same. It caused a huge rift tonight and he's staying at his Mom's. We just can't seem to get to a resolution about this.
I've been working from home and my boyfriend has been working from his office still. Today while getting groceries on my lunch break, I stopped by Starbucks to get a drink for myself. The store and Starbucks are nowhere near his work.
As I'm walking in, out walks my boyfriend with another woman. Same outfit he left in this morning. Same glasses. Mask on, but of course I can tell it's my boyfriend. Same hair in the exact same style. Same voice, he's talking to the girl. Like, I can TELL it's him. Not a shadow of a doubt. I walk up and say hello and they both just blankly stare at me. I was like "care to explain?" and he just stared at me and said "Do I know you?". His voice. Like, it was him. I'm not a jealous person, I'm never on the lookout for him, wasn't paranoid about cheating, just utterly confused. He had his lanyard hanging out of his pocket, same anime lanyard that's my boyfriends. Like, there was no question. I'm not sure how else to convey how sure I was that it couldn't have been another person.
He gave me such a confused look and said "excuse us?" and they briskly walked away and got into her car and drove away. I've never seen the car or the woman. They were just giving me weird looks. I walk back to my car and just sit there dumbfounded. So after a few minutes of collecting my thoughts and trying not to freak out, I called my boyfriend. He answered. Didn't seem off at all. I questioned him and he said he was at work. I couldn't hear any background noise. I was so upset and unable to think clearly so I told him just to come home.
He came home and said he would take his lunch early - EXACT outfit, same mask, hair the same, same lanyard in same pocket. Same voice. He seemed so confused. He said he was at work all day and had NO idea what I was talking about and that I was acting crazy.
I called his receptionist and she said "Oh, you just missed him actually, he's on the way home!" I asked if he had left the office at all that day, even for coffee and she very casually said "Nope. He's been here all morning, you really JUST missed him by 15 minutes! He took an early lunch". When I triple checked he hadn't stepped out all day, she assured me he was in his office all morning taking steady calls.
So his story checked out from his receptionist. But there was not a single possibility that wasn't him at the Starbucks with that woman. I just don't even know what to do. He is so upset that I'm insisting, saying it WASN'T him and I just refuse to believe he has an EXACT doppleganger down to the cowlick in the front of his hair, freckle on his forehead, lanyard, etc. We both feel gaslit. He feels unfairly accused, I feel lied to.
I am so dumbfounded and confused and just. Don't even know what to think. We are both so sure the other is wrong that we are literally unable to move on. Where do we even go from here?
TL;DR I'm positive I saw my boyfriend with another girl today. His office corroborated that he hadn't been out of the office at all. We are at a standstill of hurt and unsure what to do.
