my (20f) boyfriend (19m) of a year told me he flirted w my roommate because he thinks she's prettier than me

my boyfriend and i had a series of fights last night about how he flirted with my roommate and ignored me throughout the whole night. after fighting for a couple of hours, he told me it's because she's prettier than me, and he wanted to make her laugh because she's attractive. the next morning, he's adamantly denying everything and said he only said that because i kept acting like that's what i wanted to hear. we both know i have really low self confidence, so i don't know what to believe. i know i kept denying whenever he said he didn't flirt with her and that he's just extroverted, but why would he tell me she's prettier than me if he says he doesn't believe it? i feel so heartbroken hearing those words from him and now he's telling me he lied to me so that we could stop fighting. i feel so lonely and unwanted today
