I [21M] am so, so lonely. Should I tell my friends?

I am very lonely. I do have a few friends that I value. I am not sure I should confess to them how sad and lonely I am. I think that at work it is probably obvious how lonely I am, I am generally shy and awkward. I have cried a few times at work but not been caught, afaik. should I tell my friends how lonely I feel? I am not sure if I should because I don't want them to pity me, or feel like they need to be around me. I don't want them to feel like I am too dependent on them.
