So some back story here, I am very allergic to cats, and have been my whole life. I actively avoid being around them, as I usually become ill for around 24 hours if I am near a cat for more than an hour or so.
My gf's parents never had a cat, because they wanted me to visit when we were in town (my gf and I lived about two hours away at the time) Last year we moved back near her parents, so they decided to get a cat for Christmas, saying that I wouldn't be at their house as much now that I lived in town (we stayed with them many weekends while living far away). I said that was fine, I just was upfront that I indeed would not be coming over anymore.
Since then, I've been spending much less time with her parents, and all of her family, since their house was where I primarily saw everyone.
Yesterday, they all had a super bowl party, and I again did not attend. After the game, my gf came home very upset about how I wasn't in attendance, because they cleaned the house well for me...(this doesn't help my allergies, a vacuum around the house doesn't pick all allergens up).
We argued and eventually things escalated. My gf told me that if I don't at least try taking allergy shots to remedy this, she would leave me.
Am I being crazy here or does this seem like a red flag? We have been together for 6 years and she has never said anything like it. She spoke about how important family is to her and how they all have cats so I need to make a choice to get over my sickness or she would not want to be with me anymore.
I am a bit wary about getting the shots, I have relatives who have tried, some go in every week for shots with no change in their allergies. They are also crazy expensive and require going in to a doctor's office potentially hundreds of times!
Maybe I am just over reacting, it's hard to tell when it's someone you love :(
Thanks for any help
TL:DR GF tells me that if I don't try doing routine allergy shots for my cat allergies, she will leave me because her parents and sister own cats and the whole family often gathers at their houses.
